About this calendar
Events listed here must be on dirt trails or otherwise of particular interest to VHTRC members. This is not a place to list road races. (If you are looking for local road races, go to Washington Running Report or Race Packet. For national ultras try Ultrarunning Magazine. For national trail runs, try Trail Runner Magazine.)
We have nearly 200 calendar entries here, but do not attempt to list all trail running events. VHTRC members may suggest trail races that would be useful additions. To do so, contact Quatro Hubbard who has overall responsibility for this calendar.

A unique event, at least for this area, on the trails of the Montgomery County Agricultural Farm Park. The “challenge” is to complete the 5.18 mile course within an hour for the duration of your race. The challenges offered are 6 loops/50k and 10 loops/50 miles, with each loop starting at the top of each hour. The winners are determined by the fastest time for the final loop.

A challenging, rocky 100 miler on the trails of the Massanutten Mountains in the George Washington National Forest in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley. The course includes short but rugged mountain climbs with more than 18,000 feet of total ascent. There is a 36-hour cutoff.

Nighttime run on the High Bridge Trail, one of Virginia’s newest rails-to-trails projects. The course features a 2400 foot long bridge, Civil War era battlefields, and a chance to run through downtown Farmville. There are 1/2 marathon and 5k options, in addition to the 50k.

This race will offer two race distances, a challenging nine mile course with over 2000 feet of vertical gain and a 3-4 mile course with about 500 feet of climbing. 100 percent of both courses will be on the awesome single-track of Brushy Hills, a watershed tract outside of Lexington.

A majority of the course follows the Arizona Trail and the historic Flagstaff to Grand Canyon Stage Line route that was in use in the late 19th century. Many of the aid station locations match the stage line’s watering holes. Former VHTRC member Ian Torrence directs this event, which includes a 55k and relay option.

The 65 mile course is held in Hyner Run State Park and the Sproul and Tiadaghton State Forests in north central Pennsylvania. 13,400 feet of elevation gain and a 19 hour cut-off for this challenging race, with a midnight start, no crew and no pacers.

“A triptych of runs on the Eastern Continental Divide” - day one is 50 km, day 2 is 50 miles, and day 3 is a half marathon. This classic and highly challenging event is in West Virginia’s beautiful Monongahela National Forest, with the option to sign up for one race, two races or all three.

10 loops of a 10km course in Prince William Forest Park, with over 12,000 feet of elevation gain and an 18 hour time limit. 12 hour time limit for the optional 50 km. Limited to 50 runners.
