Read moreDave Frazier of Harrisonburg led a strong field of runners in winning the Elizabeth Furnace 50 km race in the Fort Valley on Saturday March 15, coming in just under 5 hours (in 4:59:32) for a new course record. A record number of runners participated in the event.
Read moreThis year, the first day of the Martin Luther King weekend will feature a run on the trails in the Massanutten Mountains that are south of Route 211, using a course that is similar to the Catherine’s Furnace 50km. The “Catherine’s 8” course involves more trail than the summertime Catherine’s Fat Ass race, and the distance is closer to 28.5 miles.

Read moreThere were a number of big stories at this year’s running of The Ring in the Massanutten Mountains, held as per tradition on Labor Day weekend. The course has never been tougher, with the runners encountering not just the usual rocks, but also heat, humidity, spider webs, flying and biting insects, and overgrowth in abundance from this wet summer. It was a fair challenge for the 43 starters, a challenge that only 47% were able to complete this year.
Congratulations to Danny Mowers, who for the second year in a row ran away from the rest of a strong field with an overall win at The Ring. This year Danny finished in a time of 16:03, which was very impressive under the conditions.

Described as a “triptych of runs on the Eastern Continental Divide”, runners are able to run a 50 km race, then a 50 miler, and then finish their long weekend up with a trail half marathon.
Read moreIt was a fun night to be out on some of the northern Massanutten trails around Signal Knob for the 2011 Moonlight Run. 22 runners (2 dogs and 20 others) showed Friday Feb 18 for what was likely the warmest winter running of this event. A number of the vets seemed to miss having snow to reflect the moon, and to soften the trail. Looked like everyone had a good time nonetheless.
