2023 Report

48 runners turned out super early for MMT Training Run #2! It was a near-perfect day in the mountains, as can be seen in the photographs below. Sunny and dry, little wind and temps warm enough for many runners to strip down to short sleeves by mid-day. Virtually all the runners covered the full distance of this second of four supported training runs for the 2023 Massanutten Mountain Trails 100 mile run.

Special thanks to all the volunteers and shuttle drivers who made the magic happen! First and foremost, huge thanks to Guy Towler for coming back year after year to host this event. It is a big effort, with the most challenging logistics of the four training academy runs, and Guy once again put on a flawless show. He was aided this year by Angela Russell, who ran the first aid station at the Veach Gap trailhead; and by the new MMT 100 RD Dan Aghdam, who helped out there and also ran the second aid station at the Habron Gap trailhead. A particularly special shout of appreciation needs to go to the drivers who came out with vans to make the shuttle portion of this tricky point-to-point run work more efficiently for the runners: Jeff Pence, Tony Taylor, and John Hord.

And here is our usual admonition regarding the “results” below… Bear in mind: this is not a run. No one treated this as a run. These should not be considered “race results.” The times are provided for informational purposes only. This can help others who pull the route from the event site and run the course self-supported, so that those runners can approximate times. It can assist those considering this training run in future years to estimate their own run times. And it is helpful for volunteers to see the range of times that runners take to cover certain sections. Results grid includes final arrival times at Camp Roosevelt only; those can be viewed below the Photo Gallery section.
