VHTRC mini-Blue Train rocks H.U.R.T. 100

Three Happy Trails runners escaped the chilly continental U.S. for sunny Hawaii to battle the tough climbing and root-strewn trails of the H.U.R.T. 100 this weekend.

From the Left Coast, Amy Sproston was the top woman finisher, completing the five loops of H.U.R.T. in 26:22:39, good enough for 8th overall in the field.

Closer to home, Alex Papadopoulos, finished 24th overall in a time of 31:01:55, paced by Megan McGrath to his 8h H.U.R.T. 100 finish and a new course PR.

Paul Encarnacion finished his first H.U.R.T. 100, completing the course in 34:45:27, paced over the last 60 miles by Gil “The Machine” Gray.

The H.U.R.T. 100 features 24,935 feet of elevation gain over five tough loops; the overall finishing rate among all entrants this year was 50 percent, the highest finish rate since the event began in 2001.

Full preliminary results, including splits for each of the loops, can be found here.
