Update on the Women’s Half and Other Events
Well, poop. The COVID-19 pandemic doesn’t seem to be going away any time soon, so the VHTRC board and race directors have decided to cancel these beloved club gatherings in 2020:
- All of the Fourth of July “trifecta” runs, including the Browntown Loop
- Catherine’s Furnace 50 km
- Martha Moats Baker 50 km
- Women’s Half Marathon and its training runs
- The Volunteers’ Party
- All Sundays in the Park runs until further notice
We’re still considering the fate of two September events, The Ring and The Big Schloss, and a decision about those will be shared by early August. Decisions about events later in the year will be shared … later.
We know — this stinks. We want to get back out there and see everyone, too, but the last we checked, the CDC did not recommend hanging out with large groups of sweaty people who are huffing and puffing all over one another.
We miss you lots, but we want to keep you safe more.
Even though we can’t hang out together like we do at the finish line at Bull Run, we can still go outside and play, and we encourage you to keep hitting the dirt, doing solo runs or grabbing a few trusted friends for a social-distancing workout. As a board, we’re thinking about ways we can make trail running more accessible, especially for newcomers who’d planned to give the Women’s Half Marathon a shot this year. We’ll share more on that front as we’re able.
If you need to mix up your running routes, check out our newly improved trail guide.
Happy trails to you — until we meet again!
