Behold, below, the results for the 2019 running of The Ring, held on its customary Labor Day weekend, which this year came very early (August 31st for one runner and August 31-September 1 for the other finishers). Congratulations to all the runners for coming out to play on the orange trail! A record 61 runners toed that start line and 28 finished this year. Of those 28, 18 are new to The Fellowship of The Ring. Welcome, and as your reward, we look forward to penciling you in to the starting field of the 2020 Reverse Ring in late February.
We have to start with a particularly hearty pat on the back to the first to the finish - the aforementioned singular Saturday finisher, Paul Jacobs. Paul ran a brilliantly paced race to shatter the race record, finishing in the Beamon-esque time of 13:29:20. The previous record of 14:23 was set in 2017 by Adam Watkins.
Second overall, and first woman back to the finish at Signal Knob, was Sheila Vibert. Sheila also took a flyer at the race record for women, held by Kathleen Cusick. Sheila fell just short of Kathleen’s 17:22 time last year, and she made a strong push again this year to break that record. Her 2019 finishing time of 17:43:36 is the third fastest for women at The Ring, bested only by her own time in 2018, and by Kathleen’s record run in 2016. Great effort, Sheila!
