The Big Schloss
After weeks of hot, humid, rainy and downright tropical weather in the mid-Atlantic, the Big Schloss 50k was blessed with gorgeous conditions for the 2018 race, held on the last Saturday in September. The start and finish saw lots of runners and volunteers breaking out the long sleeves and fleeces. But for the run, it was largely sunny and comfortable conditions. Though the trails were, in many places, muddy and wet, if not downright active streambeds.
Congrats to Brian Greeley and Ryan Quinnelly for sharing the overall win for this year’s race, in a nice time of 6:09 - and a big Welcome Back to Brian, who was racing in this region for the first time in about 4-5 years. Chris Pabian was ten minutes back to finish in third.
In the women’s race, Allison Rosenberg was successful in her efforts to obtain a ride to the race from her home in D.C., and it paid off with a first place finish, in a nice time of 7:32. Filling out the women’s podium spots were Rachel Shirley in 8:23 and Wendy Valdes in 8:58.
Thanks for RD Kirstin Corris for all of her hard work in putting on this great event!
