2023 Report

10 starters, 3 finishers

A Note from RD Bur

Just wanted to send out a note to say thank you to everyone involved this past weekend - runners, volunteers and crew alike. Results are posted below from the second edition of the Massanutten Revenge 100 Miler, held over the weekend of September 29 - October 1, 2023.

The ten starters, gathered in the parking lot at Camp Roosevelt in time for their 10 AM start.

Runners, I was impressed and inspired by every one of you who decided to give this a go. The fact that nobody dropped or timed out early in the run speaks to your collective level of preparation, fitness and determination as well as the level of seriousness every had going into and starting the event.

Volunteers really outdid themselves this year and although I still have a little way to go in terms of getting all the support I need to do this “right”, the level I had this year was enough to cover everything and have some backup/redundancy.

Crew were great and not only supported their runner, they were also helping me and supporting the event since they were providing the fail-safe backstop for the runners that you need to have during an event like this.

Jana and Luc have already put together reports and you’ll see, they’re fabulous (linked below). I encourage all of you to get your thoughts down and posted to the VHTRC website - it doesn’t matter if you finished or not - in my experience, it is often the reports of those who came up short that make for really good reads and are truly insightful.

Lost and found: as is the case with any event like this, things get misplaced and lost. Although, I had a fairly decent plan for getting the drop bags out to where they needed to be, I neglected to have an adequate plan for getting them all either back to Camp Roos or back to the runners/crews. Reach out if you are missing anything.

The 2024 event will start Oct 4th at 10am, at the same place. There will be some changes to the course but overall it will be mostly the same so any training and prep you do between now and then on this years course will still be beneficial. There will also be some changes to the logistics and rules for crew and pacing. Signup will open the traditional Monday after MMT. Looking for about 25 qualified individuals for year 3 - maybe more, if I can get all the volunteer slots dialed in. We’ll see.

If you have any thoughts or feedback you’d like to share, please feel free to reach out to me directly.

Thanks, Bur
